Title: Bear in the Back Seat Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 – Adventures of a Wildlife Ranger in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Author: Kim DeLozier/Carolyn Jourdan
Number of Pages: 355 pages
Donation: 3.55 Euro (Charity Reading Challenge)
My Rating: 3.5/5
What it’s all about: In Kim DeLozier's world, when sedated wild black bears wake up unexpectedly in the back seat of a helicopter in mid-flight, or in his car as he's driving down the highway, or in his office while he's talking on the phone, it's just another day in the park.
An hilarious, heartwarming, and heartbreaking memoir by the chief wildlife ranger in the #1 most popular family vacation destination in the USA, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For over thirty years, Kim DeLozier acted as a referee in the wild, trying to protect millions of park visitors from one of the densest populations of wild black bears in America -- and the bears from tourists who get too close (from Amazon.de)
Review: I love the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and have visited it a couple of times so reading about it from a Ranger’s perspective was very interesting.
The books are a quick and easy read, giving a lot of insight into the work of a National Park Ranger and what they have to deal with, how they learned through trial and error in dealing with wild animals and the nearly 9,000,000 million people who visit the park every year.
Recommended if you like the Great Smoky Mountains and/or wildlife.
