If you live in a country that's a member of the European Union, you can send a petition to the European Parliament here:

https://www.secure.europarl.europa.eu/aboutparliament/en/petition.html

That's the link for the English version but the petition is available in other languages as well. Just click the button in the upper right corner of the site!

You can't send a mass petitions through this site, though :-( But if enough people send one, maybe they'll get the massage!!

I'm not convinced that this will achieve anything but I thought I'll put the link out here anyway. You'll never know, right?

I've signed up for the What's in a Name Reading Challenge. Here's how it works:

Between January 1 and December 31, 2012, read one book in each of the following categories:

1. A book with a topographical feature (land formation) in the title: e. g. Black Hills, Purgatory Ridge, Emily of Deep Valley
2. A book with something you'd see in the sky in the title: e. g. Moon Called, Seeing Stars, Cloud Atlas
3. A book with a creepy crawly in the title: e. g. Little Bee, Spider Bones, The Witches of Worm
4. A book with a type of house in the title: e. g. The Glass Castle, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Ape House
5. A book with something you'd carry in your pocket, purse, or backpack in the title: e. g. Sarah's Key, The Scarlet Letter, Devlin Diary
6. A book with a something you'd find on a calendar in the title: e. g. Day of the Jackal, Elegy for April, Freaky Friday, Year of Magical Thinking

I've decided which books to read for #4 and #5 but I need help finding books for the other categories. I don't have to decide which books I want to read right now but I'd like to get suggestions/recommendations nonetheless. What would you read if you'd signed up? (no romance novels or sci-fi if possible)

Not quite sure if I should do this but you'll never know until you try, right? :D

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story

I've decided to send out Christmas cards again this year. If you'd like to have one, please leave a comment (and leave your address, too, if I haven't sent you a card in previous years).

If you don't want a card with "Merry Christmas" respectively "Frohe Weihnachten", please let me know.

Comments are screened :-)

Some more pics from Yellowstone. They're large and the waterfall photos are not upright, sorry 'bout that :D

I always wanted to see a grizzly - I just didn't expect it to be from this close a distance!

I was driving from Canyon Village down the road to the waterfalls when I got into a traffic jam. In Yellowstone, this usually means that someone spotted an animal and everyone stops right where they are to take a picture. Until yesterday, it was either bison or elk/deer when that happened. Yesterday, it was a grizzly. By the time I came to where people had seen the bear, it was gone and since I wanted to see the waterfalls, I took a left turn for the parking lot. Between the road and the parking lot is a smallish area with trees into which the bear disappeared. Can you see where this is going? *G*

Wow, I haven't updated in over a month! Not that there's much going on in my life apart from work but still...

Anyway, I spent my birthday doing the Long Night of the Museums in Hannover which was fun although the weather wasn't that good.

And on Saturday I'm going on vacation for a week. I'm going to Foehr, an island in the North Sea.
